A new board of prominent community leaders has been announced to support Maggie51É«APP™s across Merseyside.

The new Maggie51É«APP™s Liverpool centre has been made possible thanks to £5 million from the Steve Morgan Foundation who have completely commissioned, designed and funded the building.

It is expected the new centre will support thousands of people with cancer from across Merseyside each year as well as their family and friends.

The board is comprised of distinguished business and civic leaders who have joined forces to help raise awareness of Maggie51É«APP™s expert support and fundraise towards the ongoing costs of providing free practical, emotional and psychological care at Maggie51É«APP™s Liverpool and Maggie51É«APP™s Wirral for years to come. 

The board includes long-standing Maggie51É«APP™s Wirral Board member and Philanthropy Consultant Jayne Hauxwell DL, who brings a wealth of knowledge and insight gained from more than 20 years in the sector. She is joined by Vicky Collins, Events Consultant; Nicholas Wainwright, Chairman and former Managing Director of Boodles Jewellers, who will serve as Chair of Maggie51É«APP™s Liverpool; and Jim Davies, founder of DWF Law Firm and former High Sheriff of Merseyside, who has chaired Maggie51É«APP™s Wirral since 2021. They will be supported by current Board member Dickon White, Regional Director of the Jockey Club.

Edward Stanley, the 19th Earl of Derby, will also form part of the board as well as act as an Honorary Patron for Maggie51É«APP™s in Liverpool and Maggie51É«APP™s in Wirral.

Lord Derby has long dedicated his time and influence to supporting communities across the north west of England. He's in a unique position to help strengthen partnerships, engage influential supporters and champion the work of Maggie51É«APP™s throughout Merseyside, Cheshire and beyond. 

Lord Derby welcomed the opportunity to help secure the long-term future of Maggie51É«APP™s across the region.

He said: “Alongside my fellow board members, I am excited by the opportunity to help Maggie51É«APP™s expand its impact across Merseyside and secure the long-term sustainability of its life-changing support and care.

“Cancer outcomes are also influenced by wider social and economic circumstances. Across Merseyside, too many people continue to experience health inequalities that can impact both physical and emotional wellbeing following a cancer diagnosis. I am proud that Maggie51É«APP™s helps address these challenges by providing free expert support, regardless of a person’s income, background or circumstances.

“The addition of Maggie51É«APP™s Liverpool, alongside the excellent work already taking place at Maggie51É«APP™s Wirral and North Wales, will enable us to reach more people across those regions, particularly those communities where access to support has traditionally been more difficult.

“However, creating this centre is only the first step. To ensure Maggie51É«APP™s Liverpool can continue making a difference for generations to come, we will need the support of the wider community. I encourage individuals, businesses and organisations across the city region to get behind this remarkable project. Together, we can help Maggie51É«APP™s support more families find the strength, guidance and reassurance they need when cancer turns their lives upside down.

Together, we have an opportunity to create a lasting legacy – one that ensures nobody has to face cancer alone.

Support more people facing cancer across Merseyside

Expected to open next year, Maggie51É«APP™s Liverpool will become the 28th Maggie's centre in the UK and the second Maggie51É«APP™s centre in Merseyside. Maggie51É«APP™s Wirral, also funded by the Steve Morgan Foundation, opened in September 2021 in the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Wirral and welcomed more than 22,000 visits from people impacted by cancer during 2025.

The Steve Morgan Foundation also commissioned, designed and funded Maggie51É«APP™s North Wales, which opened in September 2025.

In 2026, Maggie51É«APP™s is celebrating 30 years of supporting people with cancer while the Steve Morgan Foundation is marking 25 years of changing lives for good.

Dame Laura Lee DBE, Chief Executive of Maggie51É«APP™s, said: “We51É«APP™re incredibly excited to bring Maggie51É«APP™s to Liverpool, thanks to the ongoing generosity of the Steve Morgan Foundation and their commitment to commissioning, designing, building and funding three 51É«APP across north Wales and Merseyside.

“It is a truly phenomenal act of philanthropy which will ensure thousands of people will be supported and find ways of experiencing the joy of living despite a daunting cancer diagnosis.

“As we extend a heartfelt thanks to Steve Morgan and everyone at the Steve Morgan Foundation for their unwavering support and generosity, I am also hugely grateful for the commitment of the board to making sure we are able support as many people as possible.

It’s wonderful to have our new voluntary board joining us to ensure Maggie51É«APP™s across Merseyside is here today, tomorrow and always.

The new centre will sit at the heart of a growing health campus with Maggie51É«APP™s Liverpool being built at the junction of Daulby Street and Prescot Street, close to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool.

It was the first project approved for development on the site of the former Royal Liverpool University Hospital, with further development opportunities across the healthcare campus currently being explored by NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group.
